Yes, it IS about oil...

Oil for Russia and France, that is. UPI is reporting that Kurdish Prime Minister Barhim Salih will not honor any French or Russian contracts for oil should Saddam be deposed. Salih is seen to be a major player in any post-Saddam government in Iraq.

But here's the proof positive that Russia and France are out to protect their own oil ties to Iraq:

Russian and French oil corporations have each signed draft contracts with Iraq, to come into force only when the United Nations sanctions are lifted, for exploration, development and exploitation of the country's energy resources -- which geologists believe may be the world's second largest after Saudi Arabia. The value of the draft contracts, if fully taken up, is estimated to have a potential of more than $20 billion.

The Russians and French stand to gain BILLIONS from Iraqi oil contracts if Saddam stays in power and they can get U.N. sanctions lifted. They stnad to LOSE BILLIONS if war breaks out and Saddam is deposed.

Yep, it's about oil, alright.
